Greetings Bednarcik Families,
We welcome our Bednarcik families and new students to the 2016-17 school year. It is our hope that you all enjoyed a relaxing summer vacation and are ready for a great school year. Behind the scenes, office staff and counselors worked on ordering new textbooks, preparing schedules, and registration materials in order to start the year off well. This year, we also saw a little remodeling to the office area and new carpet placed in the main office and main entrance of the school. With some of these changes, a few offices were moved and other changes made to improve communication with our families, students, and staff.
We look forward to seeing many of you at the Registration Day on Tuesday, August 9. We always hope this event allows your family time to locate new classrooms, organize new lockers and better understand your child’s daily schedule. At this event, you will receive locker combinations, have a chance to join the HSO (Home and School Organization) purchase spirit wear and drop off or pick up Shane’s grade level supply kits. Parents are asked to attend to sign rights and responsibilities information. All schedules will be printed and passed out at this time. We also are excited to be working with new photographers, Cady Photography who will be present to take your child’s student ID picture that day. A reminder to all 6 th grade families, a school physical must be submitted to the nurse by the first day of school to avoid exclusion from classes. Additionally, any student interested in trying out for sports must have an up to date physical on-file with the school nurse annually to try- out for sports.

We have so much to celebrate as we open our doors for the new school year. Students will have an opportunity to get involved from the start of the school year in our annual Club Fair, scheduled for August 30-September 1. Our theme, Be a Part from the Start, helps students think about getting involved in activities, clubs, and sports available in their school. We are excited to add a 7/8 th grade Boys Volleyball teams and other news clubs this year to our many existing clubs. The club fair will available for students to view during lunch hours and for parents to view during Curriculum Night on September 1. We encourage families to discuss the possibility of joining an activity and building teamwork, collaboration, and other leadership skills so essential for today’s student learner.
We hope that all families and students will join us for Curriculum Night on Thursday, September 1 at 6PM. Parents will meet in the gymnasium for a short presentation from the school administrators outlining the new goals for 2016-17, introducing our new Assistant Principal, and sharing other key information. Parents will be asked to bring a copy of their child’s schedule, if your child is not present, to meet your student’s teachers and hear about curriculum being covered this school year. Spirit wear will be available for purchase if you did not have an opportunity to purchase on Registration Night. Our hope is to continue the tradition of wearing spirit wear or college wear on Fridays throughout the year.
Many years ago, Bednarcik families for a way to contribute and partner in our schools and we introduced the Watch Dogs program in 2013. We have had over 200 Dads, Uncles, Grandparents, and other positive father figures volunteer their day with our students and staff. Thank you for making this program such a success and bringing father-figures into the school environment. We will have our WATCH DOGS Kick-Off Pizza Night also on Thursday, September 1 at 5PM before the Curriculum Night. Our hope was to get more involvement if scheduled on the same evening. We look forward to sending home information about signing up in late August.
As we enter September, we will again ask families to support our Annual Magazine Fundraiser, September 12-27. Our school only completes one large fundraiser which is used to create dollars to support families in need, student activities, teacher supports, and other school-wide efforts. We ask families to consider this one-time effort to help all Bednarcik students and teachers. Additionally, students will take pictures with Cady Photography on Thursday, September 8 through PE classes. If your child did not receive a student ID, they will receive one on that day. Cady Photography will be offering a unique experience with outdoor photos of your student and several poses. We hope you will like the new company and on-line processes to service families better.
