On Wednesday, March 17th, Mrs. Kate Longid came to Southbury to talk with kindergarten and fourth-grade students about a special instrument she plays--the bagpipes. She played songs for the students, explained and showed the different parts of the bagpipes, shared the history of the bagpipes, and answered questions.
This club is taught by Chasewood Learning following their Robotic Academy Curriculum. Students learn skills to compete in worldwide robotic competitions, how to build and design robots, and robotic programming. The Lego Robotics Academy reinforces STEM concepts learned in school.
Mrs. Howe presented at the Illinois ACSD Kindergarten Conference in Schaumburg on March 5th and 6th.
One Author–One School is a school-wide literacy program here at Southbury. The entire school will be reading books throughout the year written by the same author. This program will allow us to purchase a new book for each child in the school, as well as bring the author in to work with the children. By supporting the Little Caesar fundraiser, you helped to support this program and inspire our children to ignite their passion for literacy.
On Friday, February 13, 2015, Southbury Elementary School held the first Breakfast Book Chat of the year! The Breakfast Book Chat, otherwise known as the BBC, is designed to help 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders develop a passion for reading and writing! Students hear about a great book from a teacher from 8:00AM until 8:30AM. Over 100 students attended this month’s BBC!

We will be having a school wide assembly in February to celebrate the fundraiser. Every 100 items sold a teacher will get a pie in the face. If we reach our goal of 1,000 items….Mrs. Allen will get a pie in the face! All proceeds will be going to support our One Author-One School program.
