Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Joan Mundsinger

Welcome to the reading department at Fox Chase Elementary School.

I joined School District 308 in1995 after graduating from Aurora University, in Aurora, Ill. I earned my bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a middle school endorsement in language arts. While at Aurora University, I earned the Golden Apple award for outstanding educator in the education department. I was also president of Future Educators of America.  My first position was at East View Elementary. I was on the staff that opened Old Post Elementary in 1997.

In 1999, I received my master’s degree in educational administration from North Central College, in Naperville, Ill. I served as an assistant principal, English learner coordinator and principal in District 308 from 2000 to 2009. Beginning in 2003, I had the pleasure of leading the staff and students as principal of Lakewood Creek Elementary. I remained in that position for three years. After having children, I returned to the classroom while pursuing my master’s degree in reading.

In 2011, I received my master’s degree from the University of St. Francis, in Joliet, Ill. I have worked at Fox Chase as a reading specialist since 2011, and I continue to take courses in differentiation and was trained in the SIOP model of instruction for English learner students. At Fox Chase, I serve on the Rising Star School Improvement Committee and am actively involved in all school activities involving reading.
