Mr. Tyler Haymond
Principal
I am honored to be the Principal at Plank Junior High School. I have been Principal at Plank for the past five years. I started my journey in education in high school, taking on a leadership roll in the Peer Leadership elective. I was a mentor to underclassmen for two years. In college at Illinois State University, I studied Special Education. I spent 9 years as a special education teacher in elementary and junior high schools. I found that my favorite age to work with was junior high students. They are the perfect age; willing and eager to learn, curious about the expansive world around them, and working to find out exactly who they are as a person. Our junior high students also love to test their boundaries and strive for independence, which makes them fun and unique to work with! As an administrator, I spent 5 years as an assistant Principal at Troy Middle School in Shorewood, and now I have found my home here at Plank.
Plank is a place where students are able to be themselves, and we are working to create a safe and comfortable environment for students to grow and excel. One of my core values that I share with my staff is the belief that all students can learn, and building meaningful relationships with kids is the heart of education. Our goal at Plank Junior High is to prepare our students by teaching them the essential academic and social skills they need to succeed in high school and beyond. I also look forward to re-establishing our building traditions and providing those opportunities for success for our students. We are ready! We are one team, one school! We are Pirates!
