AP HUG Unit 4 Lesson Plans 2018
Day 1: Tuesday, November 16th
Objectives: Analyze religion as a factor of identity. Compare and contrast the importance of religion to the United States to countries worldwide.
Activities:
- Turn in Ch. 6 Key Issue Packet #1
- BW#1: Intro. to Religion PPT
- Importance of Religion Worldwide Activity
- Hand out Intro worksheet. Students will fill this in as they analyze each of the 3 documents
HW: Ch. 6, Key Issue #2 due tomorrow
Religion portion of Vocab and Middle East map due next Tuesday
Day 2: Wednesday, November 17th
Objectives: Students will discuss information on the major religions of the world.
Activities:
- Discuss the answers to their group assignment from yesterday
- Watch a video on religious hearths and the diffusion of the world’s 5 major religions.
- Religion Overview PPT with Notes Guide (Intro)

Day 3: Thursday, December 18th

Objectives: Students will discuss information on the major religions of the world.

Day 5: Monday, November 22nd
Objectives: Students will discuss information on the major religions of the world.
Activities:
- Religion Overview PPT with Notes Guide (Judaism Christianity and Islam)
- Watch video explaining the differences between Sunni and Shiite Muslims
- Name the Religion Slideshow (Symbols, Clothing, Jewelry, and Architecture)
HW: Finish the North Africa / Middle East Map
Work on the Religion Portion of the vocab chart
Day 6: Tuesday, November 23rd
Objective: Students will be assessed on their Religion vocab knowledge and on the Middle East / North Africa Map.
Activities:
1) PearDeck Review ( List the five major religions of the world, hearths, and facts)
2) Middle East Map and Religion Vocab Quiz
3) Name the U.S. Religion Slideshow

Day 7: Monday, November 29th
Objectives: Students will evaluate increases/decreases in secularism and fundamentalism in religions. They will also be exposed to the differences between intrafaith and interfaith conflicts.
Activities:

- Watch video explaining the differences between Sunni and Shiite Muslims

Day 8 Tuesday, November 30th

Students will compare and contrast universalizing religions vs. ethnic religions. Students will create a response to the essential question: “Who has a better claim to the land?” on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict

- Intrafaith and Interfaith Conflicts examples
- Israeli/Palestinian Conflict
- Students will answer the focus question “Who has a better claim to the land?” in a 3 paragraph essay
- Watch the trailer from the video: “Jerusalem” to give the students some background knowledge
- Use the graphic organizer to take notes
HW: Israeli/Palestinian Conflict Paper due Friday at midnight
Day 9: Wednesday,December 1st
Objectives: Students will compare and contrast universalizing religions vs. ethnic religions. Students will create a response to the essential question: “Who has a better claim to the land?” on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict

Objectives: Students will analyze where different ethnic groups live in the U.S. and migration patterns of African Americans.

Objectives: Analyze the effects of counties with great ethnic diversity. Analyze political cartoons to understand their message. Explain the long-lasting effects of Apartheid in South Africa.

Day 18: Tuesday, December 14th
Objective: Students will analyze 4 different scenarios and classify them as either ethnic cleansing or genocide. Students will be assessed on their knowledge of Unit 4 by taking the FRQ
Activities:
- Difference between ethnic cleansing and genocide
- Have students copy down the definitions between ethnic cleansing vs. genocide in their notebooks from “Ethnic Cleansing vs. Genocide” PPT (15 min)
- Go through the 4 scenarios together and classify them as Genocide or Ethnic Cleansing (10 Min.)
- Rohingya / Myanmar Video Clip (15 Min.)
