    Day 1: Monday, 12/20/21 

    Objective: Distinguish the difference between states, nations, and nation-states.  Identify examples of each.

    Activities:

    1. BW #1: “What do you think is the difference between a state, a nation and a nation – state?” 
    2. PPT State vs. Nation vs. Nation State with guided notes 

    HW: Work on the Sub-Saharan Africa Map and the Vocab Chart

     

    Day 2: Tuesday, 12/21/21

    Objective: Distinguish the difference between states, nations, and nation-states.  Discuss the challenges in defining states. 

    Activities:

    1. Watch the video on “Nations that do not Exist (5 Min.)
    2. Watch the video on Sealand (5 Min)
    3. Models of Spatial Relationships PPT 
    • Complete the Nation-State W.S.together 

    HW: Key Issue #3 is due Tuesday

     

    Day 3: Monday, 1/10/22

    Objective: Understand types of boundaries and shapes of states as part of political geography.  Analyze shapes of states for their advantages and disadvantages.  Identify examples of the various shapes of states. 

    Activities:

    1. Models of Spatial Relationships PPT 
    2. Types of Borders & Boundaries PPT with Notes Guide
    • We will discuss types of borders

    HW: Complete the “Boundaries and Shapes” W.S.

            Work on the vocab chart / Due Friday

     

    Day 4: Tuesday, 1/11/22

    Objectives: Understand types of boundaries and shapes of states as part of political geography.  Analyze shapes of states for their advantages and disadvantages.  Identify examples of the various shapes of states. Students will examine European colonialism.  Students will analyze the Berlin Conference and its effect on Africa. 

    Activities:

    Day 5: Wednesday, 1/12/22

    Objectives: Students will examine European colonialism. They will analyze the Berlin Conference & its effect on Africa. 

    Activities:

    1. Explain the Berlin Conference assignment (Students may work with a partner)

    HW:  Vocab and Sub Saharan Map Quiz is Friday

              Read the “1960 Independence in Africa” and answer the questions on the Google Form 

     

    Day 6: Thursday, 1/13/22

    Objective: Students will summarize and examine Africa’s journey to independence.Identify how the governments of states are organized.  Explain the concept & effects of gerrymandering.

    Activities:

    1. Discuss the “1960 Independence in Africa” Article / Berlin Conference

    -What considerations did the European governments make when they left Africa and created the countries?  - - List one of the main ideas/reasons for or that lead to African Independence

    1. Go over Vocab for Electoral Geography PPT with notes guide (20 min)

        * Gerrymander Video Explanation (5 Min) * Vote for Gerry Mander Campaign video (2 Min)

    Day 7: Friday, 1/14/22 

    Objective: Students will be assessed on their knowledge of the African political map . Analyze shapes of states for their advantages / disadvantages. Analyze the current issues of North Korea and issues with the border

    Activities:

    2. Africa Map Quiz / Vocab Quiz
    3. Korean War PPT (No Guided Notes) 

    HW: Ch. 8, Key Issue #4 is due next Tuesday

    Objective: Analyze the current issues of North Korea and issues with the border..

    Day 10: Wednesday, 1/19/22 

    Objective: Students will analyze the examples of centrifugal & centripetal forces * the concepts of Devolution & Supranationalism

    Activities:

    1. Centripetal & Centrifugal Forces. Devolution. Supranationalism PPT

    HW: Complete Supranationalism EdPuzzle

     

    Day 11: Thursday, 1/20/22

    Objective: Objective: Students will summarize the different political and economic supranational organizations. Students will define and analyze Wallerstein’s World Systems Theory

    Activities:

    1. Kahoot on Supranational Organizations

    Day 12: Friday, 1/21/22 

    Objective: Understand the concept of geopolitics.  Analyze the similarities and differences between the theories of Ratzel, Mackinder and Spykman.

    Activities:

    1. Geopolitical Theories (PPT) with Notes Guide 
    • Students fill models manuals worksheets for Organic State Theory, Heartland theory, Rimland Theory 

    HW:  Read the article on the Origins and Evolution of Terrorism

    Day 13: Monday, 1/24/22 

    Objective: Understand the concept of geopolitics. Students will define and analyze Wallerstein’s World Systems Theory. Analyze the similarities and differences between the theories of Ratzel, Mackinder and Spykman.

    Day 14: Tuesday, 1/25/22

    Objective: Students will define and identify examples of centripetal, centrifugal, devolution, and Supranationalism.  Students will Identify and explain the different Centrifugal and Centripetal forces that influence inside a county and / or region. Students will write an FRQ and analyze other student examples.

    Activities:

    1. Students will write their practice FRQ (30 Min)
    2. They will also analyze one of their classmates FRQ’s

    HW:  Finish analysis of one of their classmates FRQ’s if they haven’t finished.

     

    Day 15: Wednesday, 1/26/22

    Objective: Students will analyze and research to understand the different types of terrorism and responses to it. 

    Activities:

    1. Questions on the Practice FRQ
    2. Focus Question: “What does Terrorism Look Like?”
    3. Read the article “Terrorism and Political Geography”
    4. Watch the video clip, “The World’s Biggest Terrorist” / discuss
    5. “What is Terrorism” PPT
    • “Definition of Terrorism and Types of Terrorism”

    Day 16: Thursday, 1/27/22

    Objective: Students will anaylze the different types of terrorism around the world.

    Activities:

    1. Finish “What is Terrorism?” PPT
    2. Read articles and watch short video clips on different types of terrorism.
    • Chechnya, Tokyo Subway Attack. Scotland Lockerbie, Israeli and Iran Nuclear Scientists, McVeigh, Rudolph, Kaczynski, Al-Qaeda and 9/11. 

    HW: None

     

    Day 17: Friday, 1/28/22

    Objective: Students will anaylze the different types of terrorism around the world.

    Activities:

    1. Finish “What is Terrorism?” PPT
    2. Read articles and watch short video clips on different types of terrorism.
    • Chechnya, Tokyo Subway Attack. Scotland Lockerbie, Israeli and Iran Nuclear Scientists, McVeigh, Rudolph, Kaczynski, Al-Qaeda and 9/11.
