• Unit 6 Development Lesson Plans – 2021-2022

     Day 1: Friday 2/4/22

    Objective: Define development and identify regions as developed/developing given individual country statistics.  Compare and contrast regions of the world by their development.  Analyze the factors that identify the stage of development of a particular region/country.

    Activities:

    1. Bell work: Development Intro. PPT Slides 
    2. Intro to Development Regions Activity
    1. Students copy down the statistical information for their group’s region
    2. Students compare their Statistical Sheets with other regions to determine which region is more or less developed.

     HW: Complete the reflection questions

            Ch. 9, Key Issue #1 due Monday 

     

    Day 2: Monday 2/7/22

    Objective: Students will analyze key vocabulary terms used to show development.  Students will explain how well each term describes “development” and economic factors. 

    Activities:

    • Bell work: Define developed nation and developing nation and list an example of each
    • Watch the Newsroom video clip (10 Min)
    • Development PPT
    • What is Development and Economic Factors of Development

    HW: Key Issue #2 due tomorrow

         Work on the Central America Map and Development Vocabulary Chart

     

    Day 3: Tuesday, 2/8/22

    Objective: Objective: Students will analyze development and identify the key economic factors

    Activities:

    1) Development PPT with notes guide

    Day 4: Wednesday, 2/9/22

    Objective: Students will analyze development and identify the key social factors of development. Students will analyze the lives of people in Guatemala and compare their lives to those of a teenager in a less developed region.

    Activities:

    1. Development PPT with notes guide

    -(Non – Economic Development; HDI, IHDI, Health Care, Education)

    1. Read the article on Micro loans
    2. Begin watching, “Living on a Dollar a Day”

    - Complete video guide

     Day 5: Thursday, 2/10/2022

    Objective: Students will analyze the lives of people in Guatemala and compare their lives to those of a teenager in a less developed region.

    Activity:

            - Answer video questions

    Day 6: Friday, 2/11/2022

    1. Students will look at the “Quality of Life” PDF looking at country rankings

    Day 7: Monday, 2/14/22

    Objective: Students will be assessed on the geography of Central America & the Unit 6 vocab words. Students will analyze gender inequalities and the impact of development.

    Activities:

    1. Students will take a map / vocab quiz on Central America
    2. Development Country Rankings/ W.S. (Partner work)
    • Go over answers
    • Discuss islands and small countries and their GNP and Per Capita GNP

    HW: Complete the Report Card on the U.S. worksheet

            Key Issue #3 due Thursday

     

    Day 8: Tuesday, 2/15/22

    Objective: Students will be assessed on the geography of Central America & the Unit 6 vocab words. Students will analyze gender inequalities and the impact of development.

    Activities:

    • Read the article, “Five toughest places to be a girl”
    • Development PPT w/ notes guide. (Focus on Gender Equality)
    • Look at websites to give visuals on development (10)

    Day 9: Wednesday, 2/16/2022

    Obj: Students will view the lives of 6 different African women and examine the obstacles that they have to overcome to achieve empowerment. Students will analyze economic & social challenges women face in developing countries around the world. 

    Activity:

    • Watch the video: “We Will Rise”
    • Students will complete the video sheet

    HW: Finish the video sheet

    Day 10: Thursday, 2/17/2022

    Objective: Explain why some countries are more developed than others in regards to their energy production or types of energy used. Analyze energy sources, production, consumption in the U.S. compared to other developed countries. Students will look at the two different paths to development.

    Activities:

    1)  Take the Key Issue #3 Quiz

    2)  PPT Energy consumption around the world.

    Objective: Students will analyze different plans on how to assist in the development of a country and struggles they may have for development. Students will analyze how to assist in the development of a country and struggles they may have for development. How do you pay for development?

    Activities:

    1. Brainstorm: How do you pay for development in a developing country?
    2. Dependency Theory
    3. How to Pay for Development

    Day 15: Thursday, 2/24/22

    Objective: Students will research and evaluate the impact of fair trade on a country’s development.

    Activities:  

    1. Explain the Fair Trade Project Assignment (Partners)

    1. U.A.E. example of Development (Is this environmental determinism or possibilism? Is it the Self Sufficiency or International Trade Theory?
