Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Emily Wilson

I received my certification in American sign language interpretation from George Brown College, Toronto, Canada in 2004, and graduated from York University, Toronto in 2008 with a bilingual English/French bachelor’s degree in history. After returning to the states, I graduated Summa cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in education from Aurora University, and in 2014 I earned my master’s degree in special education from Aurora University.

I wanted to become a teacher, so I could use my expertise in special education to contribute to the successful, fulfilling lives of children. My teaching career has been diverse: between 2006-10, I taught at Bob Rumball Centre for the Deaf and at Durham Deaf Services -- two programs serving the deaf community in greater Toronto. My work included helping students with diverse needs develop practical academic and social skills that aided their incorporation into the community. I began working as a teacher with the Kendall County Special Education Co-op as an ESY teacher in 2014, and am excited to now be teaching in one of Southbury's STARS classroom full time.
