Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Chris Kirkwood
Hello- My name is Chris Kirkwood. I am the Independent Living Skills teacher at Pathways Transition Center. I am a graduate of Sam Houston State University, in Huntsville, Texas. I have degrees in both Elementary Education and Special Education. Before moving to Illinois, I taught Special Education for 21 years in the Houston and Dallas area. In 2007, my family relocated to the Oswego area. Since then, I have been a teacher for SD308 for 5 years, and the Kendall County Coop, serving SD308 students for 9 years before that. I love teaching the students in the Transition program. Helping students in the final leg of their educational journey is both rewarding and bitter sweet. I am so happy for them to move on to new adventures, yet I’m sad to see them go. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to come to work every day and work with such a wonderful group of young adults.
When I’m not at work, I like to spend time with my family. My husband and I have 3 college age children. In my free time, I like gardening, kayaking and spending time outside. I also enjoy watching movies and cooking. I am a huge sports fan, and support all the Chicago teams!
