Degrees and Certifications:

B.S. Marine Science and Biology, University of Tampa M.A. in Teaching Secondary Education, National Louis University

Mrs. Sarah Mantooth Humbert

I grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago and attended the University of Tampa in the fall of 2000. I graduated in spring 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science and Biology, with minors in Chemistry and Environmental Science. I had many internships at various zoological organizations and aquariums including the John G. Shedd Aquarium, Brookfield Zoo, and Florida Aquarium. During those epxeriences I completed research and worked with their marine mammal population, penguins, otters, pinnipeds, fish, and corals.

After earning my degree I spent time working in a Medical Laboratory in St. Charles, IL where medical samples were processed for both physicians and research. After gaining lab experience I moved to Jacksonville, FL to work as a Forensic Technologist in the Serology (DNA) Lab with the Flordia Department of Law Enforcement. I learned so much from the DNA Analysts and had amazing once in a lifetime opportunities. I was trained to process evidence using state of the art equipment and cutting-edge technology in the DNA lab. While this fascinating career was a dream come true, I felt that I was still not doing the work that I was meant to do.

In a surprising turn for myself, I decided to pursue a career as a teacher of high school science, where I could share my love of science and life experiences. After earning my teaching certification in 2008, I started teaching in the fall of 2009 at St. Francis High School where I taught Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry (Honors and Regular) and Coached the Varsity Dance Team. In the fall of 2019 I became an OE Wolf and I am so proud to be part of the pack. I have a Masters of Arts in Teaching Secondary Education and continue to pursue my passion for science and nature whenever possible (especially for the ocean, even if it is far away). While at OE I have taught Biology, Honors Biology, Ennvironmental Science, Chemistry , and Earth and Space Science. The best part of my work are my students. Every face and smile, all of their thoughts, insights, and questions, inspire me daily in our classroom, and I value each of them as individuals.

I am currently co-sponsor of Oswego East's chapter of Science National Honor Society. Go Wolves!
