Roles and Responsiblities


  • Executive Director of Special Education Responsibilities

    • Oversee all special education programs and services
    • Oversee District 504 Plan Procedures
    • Implement, monitor and report on District Priorities/Strategic Plan
    • Participate on Superintendent's Leadership Team (SLT)
    • Collaborate with all district and school administrators to improve outcomes for all students
    • Facilitate the department review/strategic plan/comprehensive program evaluation/improvement plan processes
    • Facilitate hiring, supervision and retention processes for district level administrative positions
    • Analyze student enrollment projections and provide annual staffing recommendations
    • Develop and monitor IDEA Preschool and Part B Flow Through grants and budgets
    • Develop and monitor local funds budget
    • Oversee completion of state & federal reporting, claims, and compliance
    • Approve department purchasing & expenditures
    • Develop Intergovernmental Agreements, oversee submission of tuition billing
    • Address district student data management oversight all special education and 504 data: ISTAR, SIS, district student management system
    • Prepare and deliver Board of Education reports & presentations
    • Ensure department procedures are implemented consistent with state and federal regulations, Board Policy & district administrative procedures
    • Respond to and resolve all State Complaints, Due Process, State Mediation and Facilitated IEP processes
    • Inform/participate in contract negotiations/OEA meetings
    • Participate in the MTSS District Committee
    • Act as State and Local Organization Representative (CASE, IAASE, CEC, NIRT)
    • Facilitate District 308 Students with Disabilities Discipline Committee
    • Proportionate Share/Private, Parochial, Homeschool
    • Act as Special Education Student Records Custodian
    • Coordinate EPEC & Community Outreach
    • Apply for state waivers & exceptions if necessary
    • Residential Placement ISBE documentation
    • Supervise and evaluate Directors and support staff
  • Director of Special Education Responsibilities

    • Manage & coordinate special education programs including:
      • Resource / Direct 1 at Boulder Hill, Fox Chase, Hunt Club, Lakewood Creek, Old Post, Prairie Point, Southbury, Wolf’s Crossing

      • Itinerants
    • Assist the Executive Director with student/staffing projections
    • Assist the Assistant Director with management and coordination of programs at the Elementary level
    • Manage & coordinate all special education related and itinerant services including speech/language pathologists, psychologists, SW, OT/PT, hearing, vision, APE, Music Therapists
    • Develop a comprehensive, professional learning plan for administrators, certified & non-certified staff
    • Collaborate with the Assistant Director to set agendas and facilitate program administrator meetings
    • Participate in the MTSS District Committee
    • Supervise the Assistive Technology Department
    • Complete program administrator evaluations in collaboration with Principals
    • Oversee review/revision of Special Education Department website pages in collaboration with special education technology department
    • Publish department newsletter in collaboration with Eric Watt
    • Participate in state and local Special Education organizations

    • Assist the Director with management and coordination of programs at the High School level
    • Assist the Executive Director with student/staffing projections
