Principal's Message
-
Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year.
My name is Keith Mecklenburg and I am proud to serve as the principal for SD 308's Pathways Transition Center. This will be my fourth year at SD 308. Previously, I taught a variety of special education classes, and served as an assistant principal for ten years. I have always felt drawn to transition programming and helping young adults transition from school-based learning to adult skills-based learning. I have always been passionate about assisting students achieve their goals. When not at work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter, traveling, fishing, and playing racquetball.
We are excited to welcome back our young adults for the 2022-23 school year. Pathways Transition Center is a skills-based program that focuses on three key areas for our young adults. Our program focuses on teaching and practicing skills in the areas of independent living skills, employability skills, and functional academic skills. Our young adults run two microbusinesses; Creations by Pathways, and the Phoenix Cafe. Pathways incorporates as many Community Based Instructional outings as we can. Our philosophy is that the community is our classroom, and that our young adults need to learn the skills in the classroom, and then have an opportunity to practice those skills out in the community.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about our program. We are always looking for community-based partners. If you know of any business or organization that is looking for volunteers or would like to sponsor a work-based learning experience for one or more of our young adults, please do not hesitate to contact me.
