Who has been a Chaparral, Red Bird, Huskie, Wolf, Wolverine, Bobcat, and is now an Eagle?  East View Academy’s Principal Allison Sulkson has! She graduated from the College of DuPage, Illinois State University, and Northern Illinois University. Mrs. Sulkson is a familiar face in SD 308, but new this year to her role as Principal of East View Academy (EVA). Previously she served as Principal of Wolf’s Crossing for 14 years. Allison has also worked as an Assistant Principal at Homestead and the Wheatlands, and began her career as a special education teacher at Boulder Hill.

Mrs. Sulkson chose a career in education to make a positive impact in children’s lives; she pursued special education specifically to be a true champion for students, to rally around them. At EVA, she strives to do that everyday. Along with Ms. Sulkson, there are 42 staff members that operate the school, serving 62 students. EVA is a therapeutic day school that provides academic curriculum with intensive behavioral and emotional support. The unique structure of the school provides small groups, helping students acquire appropriate classroom and social behaviors. The school serves students in grades kindergarten through twelfth.

This year the school’s theme is “There is no place like EVA”, which is certainly true, the supportive, individualized learning provided to students is very unique, and successful. To encourage positive behavior, a student is chosen each month to highlight as Student of the Month.

It is very important to Mrs. Sulkson to make time for exercise everyday, and also important for her to make a positive impact on the lives of her students and their families. As a mom, Mrs. Sulkson knows the importance of working collaboratively with families in order for students to succeed. When reflecting on what has driven Mrs. Sulkson to remain part of SD 308 for so long, she states “it’s a great place to be!” She finds it a privilege to work with this wonderful community, staff, and students.
