Wolf's Crossing Elementary School
Wolf’s Crossing Elementary School’s theme: “Dream without Limits”, was selected and voted on by both staff and students for the 2019-2020 school year and ties in nicely with the school’s mission: “Dedicated to reaching our highest potential”.
Wolf’s Crossing Elementary School is home to 70 total staff members, 460 students and this year has welcomed four (4) STARS (Strategies for Teaching based on Autism Research) classrooms, serving grades K-4. The school is lead by Ms. Cortnye Russell, principal, and assisted by Mr. Jeff Rainaldi, assistant principal. One of these leaders is a HUGE bears fan and one was the Illinois State University Mascot…do you know which is which?
Wolf’s Crossing staff members begin each of their staff meetings with “Good News” and then share affirmations to individually recognize outstanding efforts. Students are also continuously being encouraged to practice and show positive behavior; every Friday, two students from each grade level are acknowledged for demonstrating a pillar of character from the Character Counts program.
This is Ms. Cortnye Russell’s first year with SD 308! She chose SD 308 because of the outstanding support of the district leadership, and the Wolf’s Crossing families. Ms. Russell has a total of 19 years experience in education, teaching art at both the high school and middle school levels, serving as a dean, and an assistant principal. Celebrating the strengths of staff and students even when those individuals might not recognize them, is one of the things Ms. Russell likes most about being an administrator. “Seeing the impact on teaching and learning as the instructional leader has been my single-most prideful accomplishment,” indicated Ms. Russell. Her undergraduate education began at Illinois Wesleyan University as an Art and Design major when she then transferred to Elmhurst College and graduated in 1999 with an Art Education major 1999. She later attended the University of St. Francis where she received her graduate degree in Education Administration in 2009.
Mr. Jeff Rainaldi, Wolf’s Crossing assistant principal, has 13 years of experience in the education field…ALL with SD 308! He began his teaching career as a student teacher at East View Elementary school, taught at Grande Park Elementary School when it opened in 2007 as a 4th grade teacher and spent the next nine years in the 4th and 5th grades at Grande Park. Education and having the ability to help all types of learners has always been Mr. Rainaldi’s passion. He attended Illinois State University and graduated with a Bachelors of Science/Communication. (If you haven’t already guessed by now…….Mr. Rainaldi was the Illinois State’s Redbird Mascot and Ms. Russell is the HUGE Bear’s fan!) In 2016, Mr. Rainaldi obtained his graduate degree from the University of St. Francis in Education Administration.
Both Ms. Russell and Mr. Rainaldi are humbled by the outpouring of support that they have received from their Wolf’s Crossing family as well as the entire community. Go Bears...and Redbirds!
