• Dear Parents/Guardians:

On October 14th, 2020, Oswego and Oswego East High Schools will be administering the Scholastic Aptitude Test with Essay (SAT) for all eligible seniors. The Fall administration of the SAT is replacing the Spring 2020 SAT that was cancelled due to COVID-19, and is only offered to seniors that have not previously taken the ISBE-provided SAT with Essay. This administration of the ISBE-provided SAT with Essay will enable seniors to meet the diploma requirement, and to have the opportunity to receive a timely college- and scholarship- reportable score.

SAT testing will occur at your student’s home school on October 14th. SD 308 and each high school will employ procedures for the safety of students and staff while testing. Safety procedures will include face mask requirements, completion of health self-certification form for your child, and social distancing protocols.

    • Bring acceptable photo identification. You will not be admitted to test if your ID does not meet SAT’s requirements. OHS/OEHS Student IDs are acceptable. Testing staff will check your photo ID, admit you to your test room, direct you to a seat, and provide test materials.
    • Bring sharpened soft lead No. 2 pencils with good erasers.
    • Bring a permitted calculator to use on the specific Calculator portion of the Mathematics Test only. It is your responsibility to know whether your calculator is permitted. Please refer to the SAT Calculator Policy. Students will NOT be provided calculators.
    • Three breaks are scheduled during the testing. You will not be allowed to use cell phones or any electronic devices during the break, and you may not eat or drink anything in the test room. Doing so will be cause for dismissal from testing. A snack will be provided during the first scheduled break.

The SAT is based on information your student is learning in high school. The SAT test is more than a college admissions test as it:

    • Lets your student know if they are on track for college
    • Points out a student’s academic strengths and areas for improvement
    • Identifies how your student can prepare to succeed in college or a career
    • Assists your student in planning for the future
    • Allows your student to connect with colleges and scholarship agencies that may be interested in him or her

For more information about the SAT, students are encouraged to read the SAT School Day Student Guide.
