Students have many options in the English Department!  We offer at-grade-level and above-grade-level required courses to help students grow as readers, writers, and critical thinkers.

Once students have completed the required courses, we also offer many electives to help students earn a fourth required credit of English.  The slide deck below includes information about the required and elective English course options.  While the same information is within the SD#308 High School Course Catalog, these slides contain places to go for further information and contact emails so you may direct your questions.

OHS is also proud to offer high school students a reading course to strengthen reading skills in all content areas.  Literacy Dynamics is a course designed to support adolescent readers in strengthening their fiction and nonfiction reading skills for academic success.

The OHS English Department also offers several Advanced Placement courses:

    • English 3 AP Language and Composition
    • English 4 AP Literature and Composition
    • AP Research

English teachers provide course recommendations for all students; these are to be used as a helpful guide in selecting the tier of required course students take and to help students select the English electives to meet the four graduation requirements in this department.  If you have questions, please contact Dr. Amy Howerton, English Department Chairperson.
