With the upcoming retirement of Superintendent Dr. John Sparlin at the conclusion of the 2022-23 school year, a comprehensive search for the next Superintendent is underway.
The Board of Education recognizes that the selection of a Superintendent of Schools is its most important responsibility for the students, staff, families, and other stakeholders of our school district community. The Board of Education is committed to a search process that is transparent and collaborative with input from all school district stakeholders.
Soliciting Input
- Focus Groups: The search firm will moderate nine focus groups in early April that represent students, staff members, parents, and the community organizations to help develop a profile of what is most important in our next superintendent. Representatives will receive an invitation including details of the group meetings.

This information will be used to develop a profile of the ideal candidate, assisting in the search process.

Who ultimately chooses which candidate to offer the superintendent position to?
Posted by:The Board of Education will make the final decision on which candidate will be offered the position. The Board only hires and evaluates one position in the district- the superintendent.

What does a superintendent do?
Posted by:The Superintendent is the District’s executive officer and is responsible for the administration and management of the District schools in accordance with School Board policies and directives, and State and federal law. The Superintendent is authorized to develop administrative procedures and take other action as needed to implement Board policy and otherwise fulfill his or her responsibilities. The Superintendent may delegate to other District staff members the exercise of any powers and the discharge of any duties imposed upon the Superintendent by Board policies or by Board vote.

A survey was conducted of all students, parents and community members. Allowing these groups to provide input on what attributes are the most important to them in a superintendent.
Feb. 6, 2023
School Exec Connect was selected as the Superintendent Search Firm, contingent on the reference checks.
Board action to select the firm was taken, all board members indicated the same firm as their top choice.
