Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Mark Johnson
I attended Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, where I received my bachelor’s degree in secondary education, with endorsements in political science, world history, U.S. history, geography and sociology. My first job out of college was at Minooka High School where I worked as a dean’s assistant and coached sophomore girls basketball and freshmen boys baseball. After one year at Minooka, I landed my first teaching job at Joliet Catholic Academy (JCA). At JCA I taught freshmen world history and coached sophomore boys basketball, freshmen boys baseball and sophomore boys baseball. After six years at JCA, I was blessed to be hired at Oswego High School (OHS) to teach U.S. history. I have been a proud member of the OHS staff since the fall of 2004. I have taught U.S. history, world history, political science, ancient history and Advanced Placement (AP) Human Geogrpahy during the past several years at OHS. While teaching at OHS, I also earned my master's degree from Governors State University, Chicago, in educational administration.
Outside of the classroom, I like to stay involved in the school community. I was a member of the boys basketball staff for several and was the head varsity baseball coach before stepping aside in order to spend more time coaching my own kids and to redirect my energy inside the classroom and in the athletic office. Currently, I am the assistant athletic director. I love teaching and coaching. I am excited each and every day that I have an opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of OHS students.
