Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Kerry Rothman

Welcome to our first grade class! I am excited for another great year at Prairie Point.

After graduating from State University of New York, Geneseo, with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, I began my teaching career in a small town in Florida. I taught first grade for one year then moved to Palm Beach County, where I taught full-day kindergarten. I was hired to teach at a new Montessori magnet school in West Palm Beach. I earned my master's degree in Montessori education from Barry University, in Miami. My family then moved to Mt. Dora, FL., where my career continued with teaching reading and then full-day kindergarten. I taught kindergarten and first grade for several years at one of the first charter schools in Lake County. At this school, I was the first grade team leader, the kindergarten team leader and nominated by my peers to represent our school as "Teacher of the Year." In 2005, I moved to Yorkville and began teaching first grade at Prairie Point, the best school in District 308!

This will be my 29th year teaching. I have a master’s degree in Montessori education and use many strategies and techniques not only from Montessori but from other programs I’ve been involved with as well. My main goal, as always, is to intrinsically motivate every child to love learning. I am looking forward to working with your child and getting to know you this year!
