Mrs. Michelle Schmit

Welcome to the reading room.

I am one of the reading specialists at Fox Chase Elementary School. I have been teaching at Fox Chase for 14 years. Before teaching at Fox Chase, I was the reading specialist in East Aurora. I have also taught second grade and worked at Kinder Care, in Del Mar, Calif. While living in California I substituted in the Chula Vista school district. While in high school I had no desire to go on to college until my junior year when I had the most motivating and kind teacher. Ms. Coulter made learning so much fun and interesting that I decided I wanted to pay it forward and do the same thing for kids. My college career started at Joliet Junior College, in Joliet, Ill. I then attended the College of St. Francis, also in Joliet, and received my bachelor’s degree. I continued on to get my master’s degree at Illinois State University, Normal. Enjoying teaching and learning, I continued to take classes. After a few years of just taking random classes I wanted more so I studied to get my national board certificate. To this day I am still continuing my education by working toward my English as a second language endorsement so I can continue to make a difference in little kids’ lives. I am a lifelong learner, and I want to help kids become one also.
