Mrs. Joy Varney
I received my bachelor’s degree in Music Education in 1986 from Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb, Illinois. While raising my children, I taught preschool for 13 years at my in-home, licensed daycare. In the summer of 2006, I returned to NIU to earn a subsequent certificate in Elementary Education while working as a substitute in School District 308. In 2007, I was hired as a fifth grade teacher in School District 308. In 2020, I earned my Master's Degree in Elementary Reading and Mathematics K - 6 at Walden University as well as having taken multiple graduate courses at Aurora University, NIU, and University of LaVerne. This is my fifteenth year in this district and my twelfth year at Wolf's Crossing Elementary School.
I knew I was destined to be an educator from the time I was 10 years old. I loved helping my sisters and friends complete their homework, and would play “school” on the weekends and during the summer.
My favorite part of teaching is seeing that “Aha!” moment in a student after showing great perseverance to understand.
