Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Michelle Nance
I began my teaching career graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University, Normal, in 1991. I have a total of 25 years experience in the teaching field. While teaching at Thompson Junior High School for the past 17 years, I continued growing professionally through a graduate program at St. Xavier University, Chicago. I graduated with a master’s degree in teaching and learning in December 2010. My prior teaching experience includes schools in the Highland Park and Wilmette, IL area where I have taught all core subject areas (math, science, language arts, social studies), and also German as a foreign language.
I am involved in many facets of teaching including activities, programs, and various organizations that benefit students. I facilitate an outdoor education program aligned to state standards for sixth grade students. I am also passionate about student inquiry learning and that is why I teach science. Science is understanding the world around us through hands-on learning and making real-world connections. In my classroom you will find a variety of teaching and learning styles that are centered on discovery, realization of concepts, and high expectations for scientific success.
Best wishes for a successful sixth grade science year!
