Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Florein Hilderbrand
In 1980 I received my bachelor’s degree in education from Aurora University, in Aurora, Ill. After my own children were in school full-time, I began working at Oswego High School as the career center manager. During that time, I completed my master’s in education in counseling from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, and then was hired as a school counselor at Oswego High School. I have also completed a significant number of hours in the doctoral program for counseling at Northern Illinois University, and enjoyed teaching career planning at Northern Illinois to undergrad juniors and seniors for a semester. In addition to my state licenses in teaching and counseling, my credentials include national certified counselor through the National Board of Certified Counselors, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois as well. I am a member of the VALEES Student Services Committee at Waubonsee Community College, in Sugar Grove, Ill., and I have co-chaired that committee for five years. I served as the secondary education vice president on the Illinois School Counselor Association for three years and have had the opportunity to present at several national and state conferences throughout my career.
My career philosophy is to provide opportunities, information, and experiences to my students to assure that upon graduation they have the social-emotional and college and career readiness skills necessary to find success in their lives.
My favorite career accomplishment was facilitating the Oswego High School Wall of Honor along with the Interact Club. The wall pays tribute to alumni who have served their country.
