Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Kevin Schoenbach
I began teaching at Oswego High School (OHS) in 2009. At OHS, I co-direct our five curricular concert bands, our volunteer Panther Marching Band, and direct our jazz program. I also teach our School of Rock class, and I am co-sponsor of our Tri-M Music Honors Society. Prior to my appointment at OHS, I was the director of bands at Timothy Christian School, in Elmhurst, Ill., where I taught fifth through 12th grade band, jazz band and music appreciation. My first teaching experience was at Taft Grade School in Lockport, Ill., from 2001 to 2003, where I was director of music.
I received my bachelor's of music education and music performance degrees in 2000 from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Ill., where I performed in virtually every ensemble. I also received my master's degree from VanderCook College of Music, Chicago, in 2009, with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I perform as a freelance trombonist with various groups all over the Chicago area, mainly in the areas of jazz and pop music. I am also contributing editor for the Instrumentalist Magazine, where I review all new jazz publications and have written a few articles. I also clinic bands in the area, mainly in jazz, and I have a private brass studio in Downers Grove of about 10 students.
