Mr. Michael Jon Skura
I first received my associate’s degree in science and arts with an emphasis in art at Harper Community College, in Palatine, Ill., in 1991. During this time I joined the Army National Guard and was stationed in Elgin, Ill. After six years I was honorably discharged as a sergeant. While in the Army National Guard, I earned a bachelor’s in fine art studio and painting at the University of Illinois, Chicago, in 1994.
Two years later I earned another bachelor’s in Fine Art secondary education. My first job was at Josephinum, located in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago. I worked there for three years. Next, I worked at Schaumburg High School in Schaumburg, Ill. After a year at Schaumburg High School, I began work at Oswego High School. Within a year at Oswego, I began working on my master’s in curriculum and instruction at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. After two years I was finished and then was hired as interim division chair for the fine arts. During this time I worked on my Type 75 certification through the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and received an advanced certificate of study in education of leadership program. I became the Fine Arts Department Chair at Oswego High School in 2009.
