Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Susan Stangland
In May 1974, I graduated from Illinois State University, Normal, Illinois, with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Education. I began teaching Typing and Business Law the Fall 1974 at Oswego High School. I also taught Office Practice and Shorthand I and II beginning my fourth year at OHS. Currently, I am teaching and coordinating the I.C.E. Work Program and coordinating the dual-credit Criminal Justice Program with Waubonsee Community College, Sugar Grove, Illinois, and the Oswego Police Department.
Since graduating with a Master’s in Arts of Teaching from Aurora University, Aurora, Illinois, in 1995, I have taken numerous graduate courses to enhance my classroom instruction. Some of the graduate courses have added to my training as a member of the Oswego High School crisis team including SCAT training/certification in January 2014. After my first 25 years as a junior class sponsor, I have been serving as the head senior class sponsor since 1999.
My career objective is to provide students a safe, learning environment where I can facilitate them in their education, creating a desire for lifelong learning while encouraging them to recognize their strengths and inspire them to develop their unique characters. Throughout my more than 40 years as a teacher, my greatest accomplishments are to walk alongside, teach, encourage, and guide students on their life's journey, celebrating with them when they have their "aha" moments. Walt Disney said, "Your dreams can come true." Mine did—I'm a teacher!
