Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Cynthia Vick
I attended Western Illinois University, Macomb, where I started with the intention of becoming a journalist but later changed my major to microbiology with a minor in dance (emphasis on physical education.) After graduating from Western Illinois with my BS in microbiology, I attended Hines VA Hospital School of Nuclear Medical Technology for a year. I became a registered medical technologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and stayed there for about three years. I worked mainly in the blood bank and blood donor center, but I also worked in many other labs including chemistry, hematology, and oncology. It was while I was conducting learning lessons for Bring Your Kids To Work Day that I decided teaching was what I really wanted to do. At that time I was able to be hired to teach science at OLGC school and stayed there for 4 years. I also taught dance lessons at Fox Valley Park District where I did so for 6 years total.
In 2002, I began to pursue my MATC from Aurora University. I finished my degree in 2006 and was hired by School District 308 to teach Horticulture and Floral Design at Oswego East High School in 2007. In 2010 I was able to join the amazing science staff at Oswego High School and traveled between both high schools for 7 years. During those 7 years I continued to teach Horticulture (to available classes) and Floral Design every year at East, and I taught a variety of science classes at OHS: Biology (4 years), Earth and Space Science (3 years), and Meteorology and Astronomy as semester long classes.
While I loved being part of each family and getting to know the students and staff at both locations, in the 2017 2018 school year, I was transferred full time to OHS. In my time being 100% Panther I have taught Earth and Space, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Horticulture and Floral Design.
In addition to teaching, I coached poms at Plank Junior High from 2014-2017, giving me another group of amazing District 308 students with whom I was blessed to work. At the end of 2017 2018 school year I started sponsoring the OHS DIVAS and GENTS Step Team, and this year, 2021, I started cosponsoring the FLL Robotics program for our junior highs. I am so blessed to be surrounded by so many amazing students!
