BA English and Speech MA Teaching Critical Thinking

Mrs. Tracie Schwertley

I attended Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where I graduated with an English, Speech and Education degree. I taught in Iowa and Wisconsin for five years, before coming to District 308! In 2008, I received my Master’s degree in Teaching Critical Thinking from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.  I received my Gifted Education endorsement in 2013, and I'm excited to teach 6th ELA at Traughber!  I have been in the district for 17 years, having taught at Bednarcik and Murphy! After pursuing other opportunities, I am so excited to be back "home" in 308! My teaching goal is to ensure that students learn how to become critical thinkers and love Language Arts. We are going to have such a fun year! We will read, debate, write, and learn to love ELA!

I'm lucky to be part of such an amazing community, and to be able to do something I love every single day!  My favorite books are A MAN CALLED OVE, MEMOIRS OF AN IMAGINARY FRIEND, GONE WITH THE WIND and TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. A Y/A Holocaust related book I read this summer that I recommend is THE GIRL IN THE BLUE COAT.
