    School Closing Information

The safety of our students and staff is a top priority of the district. We realize that in a district the size of District 308 (68.6 square miles) that weather conditions can vary greatly in different areas of the district.

For this reason, we urge parents to use their best judgment in determining if road conditions allow for safe travel.

To assess the driving and weather conditions in various areas of the school district:
    • District 308 administrators personally travel the roads
    • Local law enforcement agencies, local municipalities, and county highway departments are consulted to assess area driving conditions

To determine whether schools should be closed, the district:

    • Consults multiple weather agencies, including those that specifically consult for District 308’s attendance area
    • Confers with administrators in adjacent school districts to determine—and when appropriate coordinate—a course of action

To notify district families and employees of the superintendent’s decision to close schools (by 5:30am):

    • School closing information is posted on the district website
    • A voice message is sent using the district’s alert notification system to the student's primary phone number
    • An email is sent using the district’s alert notification system
