I attended Illinois State University, in Normal, Illinois, where I received my bachelor’s degree in junior high/middle school education, with endorsements in language arts and social studies. I received both my Masters in Literacy (2012) and my Educational Doctorate in Literacy (2020) from Judson University in Elgin, Illinois.
Dr. Heather Kraus
Welcome to Sixth Grade!
I taught sixth grade for seven years (from 1992-1999) at Gregory Middle School in Naperville, Illinois, before taking a break to raise my two children. I taught fourth grade and fifth grade at Southbury Elementary School from 2009 to 2017. Then, in the fall of 2017, I moved back to my world of junior high-middle school here at Bednarcik Junior High to teach sixth grade ELA. I am happy to continue to do what I love…teach!
I enjoy serving on numerous teams here at Bednarcik (i.e., AVID, ILT, One Book One School) as well as helping support literacy among students, staff, and community. I have been a co-presenter at the Illinois Reading Council Conference for several years. I have also enjoyed presenting at other literacy workshops where I have been able to share literacy ideas and practices with educators and administrators. As of December 1, 2020, I defended my doctoral dissertation and became Dr. Kraus--one of my life goals come true--earning my Educational Doctorate (EdD) in Literacy from Judson University in Elgin.
I'm looking forward to a fabulous year!
