Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Stephanie Townsend
I attended Illinois State University, where I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I also received 3 endorsements (Language Arts, Social Science, Reading). I participated in a year-long internship my senior year of college and had the opportunity to work in various grades in district U-46. I taught 2nd grade, 4th grade, and 6th grade students. My first year being hired in Oswego School District 308, I was thrilled to teach kindergartners for the first part of my day and then I taught remedial reading to students in grades K-5. During this time, I started my first master’s degree at Olivet Nazarene University in literacy for my reading specialist’s degree. Later, I went on to get certification to be a reading recovery teacher through National Louis University. I received my second master’s degree in educational leadership from University of St. Francis.
I am currently an Instructional Coach and AVID Site Coordinator working with grades K-5 and I love it! I have the opportunity to push into classes and work with many teachers and students each and every day. I also have many trainings throughout the year that I take part in. This allows me to bring many new ideas back to Southbury to help support teachers and students. I facilitate professional development for teachers at Southbury and the district.
I am looking forward to another amazing year!
