Dr. Megan Truax

Welcome to fourth grade!

I am thrilled to be part of your child’s educational journey!  My background in education began when I graduated from Judson University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and an endorsement to teach middle school language arts and social studies.  I then earned a Master’s of Education in Literacy from Judson University in 2010, and I earned my Doctorate of Education in Literacy from Judson University in 2017.  I have presented at both the Illinois Reading Council Conference and Judson University’s Literacy in Motion Conference, and I have had two articles published in the Illinois Reading Council Journal and one research article published in Literacy Research and Instruction.  Throughout my teaching career, I have had experience teaching in the primary and intermediate grades, as well as in middle school.  Throughout my time at Southbury, I have been a member of the TLC and Rising Star committees.  I am currently a co-chair of the Sparking a Love of Literacy (SLL) committee, which is a branch of the Building Leadership Team.  In addition, I also serve on the building Safety Committee and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee.

My teaching philosophy is that every single one of my students is a reader, writer, mathematician, scientist, and historian.  I believe that although my fourth graders are young, they are capable of truly amazing things, and I love helping them work towards reaching their potential.  I wanted to become a teacher because of the incredible impact my own teachers had on my life; I hope to be the type of teacher who positively impacts the lives of my students as well.

I’m looking forward to reading, writing, thinking, and growing with all of my students!
