Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Michele Simmons

Welcome to the fabulous fourth grade!

I am so excited to be your child's 4th grade teacher! My name is Michele Simmons and I've been teaching since 2009. Since 2013 I've been teaching 4th grade. Of all my teaching experience, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for 4th grade. I look forward to teaching it again this year with your child!

I grew up attending school in District 308 from 4th grade through high school. I went on to attend Bradley University, in Peoria, Ill., where I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a concentration in English. I also graduated with middle school endorsements in language arts and social science. After graduating in 2008, I subbed at various schools in the district, covering a few long-term leaves as well. I then taught first grade at Hunt Club Elementary School before teaching second and then fourth grade at Grande Park. I've always had a passion for working with kids and also for reading. In 2015 I finished my graduate program at Concordia University, Chicago, earning a master’s degree in reading. After passing my exam, I am officially a certified reading specialist!  The new techniques I learned in my grad classes continue to benefit the students in my classroom. Also, over the summer of 2016 I attended a Gifted Education Seminar to learn more about how to best meet the needs of students identified as Academically Talented, or Gifted. I walked away with lots of great ideas, to help challenge students that demonstrate mastery in a specific subject! We're going to have a wonderful year!

When I'm not teaching, grading or planning :) I enjoy reading a good book, dancing, laughing, getting my nails done and being outdoors. But these days, much of my time is spent hanging out with my two boys, Jordan and Jaylen, and my husband.
