• Supplies Needed 2020:

During Remote Learning: There are NO supplies required for this class during Remote Learning. All work will be completed and submitted digitally using Google Classroom and a PDF writer app (specific videos and instructions of how to install and use this app will be shared during the first week of school). Students will not have to print any documents, and should not purchase folders, notebooks, etc. for Social Studies class.

When students return back to school: All students will be using the AVID organizational method, which means they will be carrying a 3inch binder containing all necessary supplies. Students will be expected to bring this binder to class every day without fail. Students will need one divider section in the binder dedicated to Social Studies handouts. No other specific supplies are needed for this class, which means no notebooks or other folders.

Welcome to Sixth Grade Social Studies and Seventh Grade World History!

I graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in both Psychology and Secondary Education, and a specialization in American History. I have my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Social Studies from University of Concordia Portland. In addition, I have received graduate credit from University of LaVerne, Benedictine University and Chicago’s Northwestern University in the Advanced Teaching Program for Gifted Students, as well as completing Illinois' Gifted Education Seminar graduate class. I have been working at Thompson Junior High since 2007.

I have been a representative of Thompson's Rising Stars Committee and Building Leadership Team, as well as leading Professional Development for Thompson staff. In addition to teaching, I have also worked as a new teacher mentor and cheerleading coach at the middle school level as well as at Oswego High School. I have hosted both the Geography Bee and Spelling Bee for our students.

I am continually working to improve our curriculum, lessons, and school environment. I have always been passionate about helping young people discover an interest in world events and Social Studies topics.
