Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Jean Trahant
After graduating Western Illinois University, Macomb, with a degree in physical education I taught in an Ohio elementary school. Later I became endorsed in elementary education, and language arts. When I returned to Illinois I spent several years teaching physical education and health to sophomores in high school, and later third and fourth grade in a private school in Aurora. While taking time off from teaching to raise children I attended Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, and received a master’s degree in special education. While working with students in the instructional skills program at Thompson Junior High School, it occurred to me that the ability to read well was significant to exit a special education program and is basic to all academic programs. My second master’s degree in reading is from Benedictine University, Lisle, Ill. Due to my own experiences as a student that attended eight schools in twelve years, I wanted to become a teacher that was student focused. Thompson is a great place to put all of my education and experience to work as I interact with students on a daily basis.
