Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Laura Cavanaugh
I graduated from Monmouth College, in Monmouth, Ill., with a bachelor’s degree in art with a (kindergarten through 12th grade) certification in teaching. I also have a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Aurora University, in Aurora, Ill. In addition, I completed a graduate studies program in Europe through Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, with my concentration in Pompeii, Italy. Overall, I have been teaching for 30 years, branching from grades one through 12. I have been teaching in District 308 since 2000.
I received the “Most Inspirational” teacher award from Western Illinois University, Macomb, and the LaSalle County Educator of the Year award. I am a past president of the Fox Valley Arts Council, a grant writer, curriculum developer for School District 308, a contract negotiator, a chaperone for District 308 students on trips to Europe, and a free-lance artist. I have also exhibited and won awards with my artwork throughout the Chicagoland area. I have also been a sponsor of a variety of clubs and have worked in a variety of athletic coaching positions. I have always enjoyed being part of the creative process. My passion for working with students of all ages has led me to a career in teaching that has lasted for more than 30 years. I cannot see myself doing anything else!
