Mr. Ken McCafferty
Welcome to fifth grade!
Our school theme this year is "Churchill Mustangs; Shine Better Together." After the last 18 months of craziness, it is surely great to be "together" as one class, all in the same place once again. I am definitely excited for this school year. You may be wondering about me, so here is the snapshot: My dream from the time I was a little guy was to be an airline pilot. The first year of my undergraduate studies was spent abroad at Saint Patrick's College, in Ireland. Upon returning home I completed my bachelor’s degree in Aviation Maintenance and Management from Lewis University, Romeoville, IL. After graduating from Lewis University, I flew professionally for Midway Airlines and USAir Airlines. After spending 25 years in the private sector, I decided that the best way to make a difference in the world was to become a teacher. I earned my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Saint Francis, Joliet, IL. After earning my Master’s I taught, First, Second, and Fourth grades in District 202. Then in June of 2008, I joined the staff here at Churchill Elementary, teaching Fifth grade. Here I remain! BEST JOB EVER!
My teaching philosophy is pretty simple: give and earn respect, have fun teaching and learning, make school a place that students want to come to, and hold the students to high expectations of learning, retaining, and being able to explain what they have learned.
