I have the pleasure of teaching your child this year in junior high. I have moved to the junior high over 6 years ago after working in the kindergarten center and elementary schools. Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz said, "There's no place like home" and I can tell you junior high is like home to me. A junior high is an incredible place of learning & collaborating. Your child will love it here I am sure as much as I do!
Here is a little about my teaching career and how I got to be here at Murphy Junior High School. I am excited to say this is my 10th year of teaching. I have taught in School District 308 for several years. My teaching career began in Alden-Hebron where I taught 3rd grade. I then moved to Valley View School District in Bolingbrook, IL where I taught 3rd grade with a fantastic team. I then decided to take time to be the first teacher to my 4 children and I stayed home. I then began at East View as a math interventionist, reading enrichment teacher, teacher's assistant, and covered a leave of absence.
My education began at Elgin Community College where I received my Associate in Arts Degree, was a Multi-Year National Dean's List Scholar along with being inducted into o Phi Theta Kappa (International Honor Society for Two Year Colleges). Then I transferred to Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, where I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Education. I was certified Kindergarten through 9th grade with endorsements in middle school and language arts. I attended the University of St. Francis, Joliet, in the summer of 2014 where I completed my English as a Second Language endorsement. Most recently I completed my Masters in Teaching and Learning with a concentration in ESL through the University of St. Francis and was asked to join Kappa Delta Pi and Honor Society for Education. December 2017 I was notified that I passed my National Boards and I am now a National Board Certified Teacher in English as a New Language. The title comes with much pride because this is an elite group of teachers that have spent a great deal of time examining their teaching and improving it to be the best for all students. I absolutely love learning and am inspired to continue to learn and grow through my students. I hope to start another master's program in the next year or two.
Teaching is only one aspect of my life, I am also a wife, mom, & much more. I live in School District 308 boundaries with my husband and 4 children. My children attend 3 different schools within the district so you just never know where you may find me. I enjoy reading and watching movies, but the place I want to be the most is with my family! If I am with them then I am having a great time.
