I attended the University of Illinois, Chicago, where I received my master’s degree in elementary education with an English as a second language (ESL) endorsement. My first year of teaching was in ESL, and I have been teaching ESL for 16 years. I taught four years of ESL before joining the ESL staff in District 308 in 2005. While teaching ESL, I attended Northern Illinois University, in DeKalb, where I received my Type 75 certificate. Before I became an ESL teacher I was a literacy volunteer tutor for two years. Before I became an ESL teacher I was a literacy volunteer tutor for two years. While tutoring adults who did not speak English, I found my passion in teaching English as a second language. I attended the University of Stony Brook, in New York, where I received my master’s in linguistics, which is how my teaching journey began.
