AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by
preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.AVID Process
- AVID is a selective, nomination-based elective class. Current 6th graders were nominated by teachers or were able to self-nominate to join an elective cohort for the Fall (as a 7th grader). Nomination letters will go home with those 6th graders who are invited to take part in the application and selection process. Since self-nomination was a publicized option both with students and parents, no additional nominations will be accepted at this time.
- For students who receive a nomination letter, you and your parent/guardian are highly encouraged to attend the Thompson AVID information night.
- At the information night, applications will be handed out along with additional program information. If you cannot attend the information night, the student will receive the application at school the following day.
- All applications will be due to Ms. Shaw in the main office (Counselor and the AVID Coordinator). There are no exceptions to this deadline. The next part of the process will be a 5-minute student interview in late February. Every student who submits a completed application on time will have an interview.
