Mr. Anthony DeFeo

Principal

I am honored to be selected as the next principal at Thompson Junior High. I look forward to working
with our parents, students, and staff to further promote academic growth and student success.
I received my bachelor’s degree from Elmhurst College with a focus in physical education and history. I
moved on to Concordia University where I pursued and received my Master’s Degree in Educational
Leadership. One of my passions is working and supporting students with special needs. I received my
Director of Special Education degree from Aurora University in 2015.

Our goal here at Thompson is to prepare our students by teaching them the essential academic and
social skills they need to succeed in high school and beyond. We also plan to provide a warm and
welcoming environment for our valued community members and parents. Welcome to Thompson!

I’m very excited to return to Thompson Junior High for my third year and eighth within the 308 school district. Prior to serving at Thompson, I was a Dean of Students at Oswego East HighSchool for five years. My journey has granted me the opportunity to work in three states (Missouri, California, and Illinois) and six districts. I began my career teaching mathematics and coaching; but I have also taught physical education. My coaching includes football and wrestling, having served as an assistant coach and head coach in both sports. While in California, I also worked as a high school athletic director. My bachelor’s degree in secondary education was earned from the University of Illinois and my master’s degree in secondary administration was earned from the University of Missouri – St. Louis.

My caseload includes students with the last names that begin M-Z. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or positive thoughts to share.

Go Tigers!

This is my 17th year in education; 9 years as a special education teacher and 8 years as a special education administrator. I have taught in grades K-12, ranging from resource classrooms to alternative ED/BD placements. Special Education is where my heart is and what I truly enjoy.

I graduated from Monmouth College in Monmouth Illinois with my bachelor’s in Elementary Education and Special Education. I went on to earn two master’s degrees from University of Phoenix; one in Curriculum and Instruction, one in Administration. I have also earned my Director of Special Education endorsement through Aurora University. In May of 2017, I graduated from NIU with my Ed.S - Superintendent’s certificate.

This is my first year as part of the Thompson family and I feel so lucky to have joined such a great staff who truly cares about the students.

Every question that I get asked and every decision I make is based on one philosophy “Is this what is best for this student?
