Dear Grande Park Elementary Families,
On behalf of the staff at Grande Park Elementary School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2017-18 school year! Our staff is thrilled and excited to share another year of learning with your children. We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. It is our mission to help every child feel welcomed, connected, and a part of our Grande Park family.
Our custodial staff worked very hard this summer to make every room and area within the school look shiny and new! Our teachers will soon be preparing their rooms and are very excited to meet their new students.
The district will post your child’s class assignment online on Wednesday, August 9th at 4:00 p.m. You can get to this by logging onto Home Access on the District 308 website. If you have a question about this, please contact our office.
We hope you will join us Monday, August 14th for our annual Preview Night. The school will be open from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. for students to find their classrooms, tour the building, and drop off school supplies. Our PTA will be sharing information about ways to volunteer and how to become a PTA member. We will be continuing our Watch D.O.G.S. group this year and our leaders will be grilling hot dogs for everyone to enjoy! Everyone should enter through door #5 off the playground. Staff members will be located throughout the building to answer any questions you may have.
The first day of school for kindergarten through fifth graders is Wednesday, August 16th. There will no longer be kindergarten round-up sessions in District 308. All kindergarteners will attend school as the first through fifth graders on the first day. Curriculum Night will be Wednesday, September 6th from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
The hours of our school day are 8:45 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. for full-day kindergarten through 5th grade. Our half-day kindergarten students are dismissed at 11:20 a.m. Students are able to enter the building starting at 8:15 a.m. for breakfast.
As a staff, we have decided our theme will be “Grizzly Mindset - Change Your Words, Change Your Mindset” for the 2017-18 school year. The theme is based around the concept of a growth mindset developed by psychologist Carol Dweck and popularized in her book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success. I strongly encourage all parents to read the book as well. It provides many strategies on how we can all learn to fulfill our potential.
We encourage everyone to join the PTA and help make a difference in our school. The first PTA meeting will be Tuesday, September 5th at 6:30 p.m. Please enter through door #3. Babysitting service is provided.
Our Parent Handbook is being updated and will be available on our school’s website by August 16th. Please take some time to read it and become acquainted with our guidelines and procedures. Please make sure that you keep your email and phone numbers current in Home Access. That information is used as the main way we communicate quickly to our Grande Park community. Our first edition of our bi-weekly newsletter, News from the Den, will go out on Thursday, August 17th. Our newsletters will also be posted on our Grande Park website and Facebook account. Communication is truly the key to a strong partnership and connection between home and school. If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I am looking forward to another great year!
Sean Smith, Principal
