Grande Park Elementary School

World-class schools serving caring communities

h d c

Welcome to the 2016-17 school year at Grande Park Elementary School! I couldn’t be more excited and proud to be the principal of this amazing school! We have a very hardworking, talented and dedicated team of teachers and support staff. We have very high expectations for our students both academically and social/emotionally.

Our teachers will continue to use MyMath and ReadyGen curriculum materials for math and English-language arts. Both are aligned to the Common Core State Standards. Three teachers will be piloting TCI science curriculum, which is aligned to Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Our teachers will continue to meet in their Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to analyze student data and plan interventions and/or enrichment activities. Technology will continue to be an integral role in meeting our students’ needs and preparing them for the future.

We will continue to focus on our Character Counts! traits: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, fairness and citizenship. We will continue to highlight the individual traits and recognize students demonstrating the various traits. Students will display expected behaviors throughout the school and learn various strategies to help them develop socially and emotionally.

Our staff voted on a theme at the end of last year and we will continue to have a theme around heroes while incorporating and celebrating our 10-year anniversary as a school! Our staff t-shirts will say: 10 MARVELous Years at Grande Park #GP10Years. Feel free to follow us on Twitter @grandepark308 and Instagram at grandepark308. We are encouraging our staff and families to tag pictures at #GP10Years to help share wonderful memories being made during the school year. Our staff and PTA are planning exciting activities throughout the year as well.

I want to encourage everyone to get involved in our school community. We are always looking for volunteers at school and through our PTA events. One way to become involved is to stay informed. Make sure you have signed up for Communicate 308 on the district website so you can receive our bi-weekly newsletter called News from the Den, as well as PTA information. This will be the only paper copy sent home. Beginning September 1st, we will be moving to an electronic version. Your child’s teacher will send newsletters regularly as well as update their classroom websites.

Please join us for Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 7th from 6-7:30pm and our first PTA meeting on Wednesday, September 14th at 6:30pm.
Never hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, suggestions and compliments.
With Grizzly Pride,

Sean Smith
