Mr. Sean Smith

Principal

Welcome! I feel so privileged to serve as principal of Grande Park Elementary School. I am honored and humbled to be a part of this wonderful school community. I look forward to continuing to create and maintain strong, positive partnerships with students, staff, families and community members. I received my bachelor's degree in elementary education from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Ill.  I have a master's degree in educational administration from the University of St. Francis, Joliet, Ill. My second master's degree is in school guidance and counseling from Lewis University, Romeoville, Ill.

I have been so fortunate to be a Grizzly since July of 2012 where I began my journey as assistant principal and was so excited to be named principal for this current school year. Prior to coming to School District 308, I taught second and fifth grades in School District 86 in Joliet, Ill, and fourth grade in School District 92, in Lockport, Ill, where I also served as the teacher's union president for two years.

Grande Park Elementary School is an amazing place to work. I truly appreciate all that is accomplished by our students, staff and families. In partnership with our families and community members, all students will reach their highest potential. My door is always open. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you have regarding your child’s experience. I am looking forward to another fantastic year!

Assistant Principal

Hello!  I am beyond excited to start my second year as an assistant principal at Grande Park Elementary School. Prior to coming to Grande Park, I taught in School District 308 at East View Kindergarten Center as the music teacher. I have loved my first year at Grande Park and can't wait to continue creating positive relations with students, staff, parents and the community.  I attended Illinois State University, Normal, Ill, where I received my bachelor’s in music education as well as a mathematics endorsement. I also received my master’s degree in educational leadership from Aurora University in Aurora, Ill in 2015.

While I am not educating, I spend a lot of my time coaching soccer.  I am the lead coach for the Fox Valley Strikers Soccer Club ages 7-11.  I also lead the music worship on Sundays in the Neumann Band at St. John Neumann in St. Charles, Ill.

Special Education Coordinator

I am very excited to be a part of Grande Park Elementary as a special education coordinator!

I graduated from Northern Illinois University in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Special Education and a minor in Spanish. After college, I took a long term maternity leave as a learning behavior specialist in an early childhood classroom in Lemont. For the following two years, I continued to work in Lemont and became an inclusion teacher where I co-taught in 5th grade and 3rd grade classrooms. After Lemont, I taught in Matteson for a year as a resource teacher for students in kindergarten through third grade. For the past five years, I have worked in the Troy School District as a learning behavior specialist providing minutes through a resource and co-teaching model for students in kindergarten through fourth grade. In 2014, I graduated from the University of St. Francis with a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and a Principal Endorsement as part of the new Principal Preparation Program.

I view my new position to be one of service to the stakeholders of our schools and district as a whole. My goal is to be a resource for staff, students, parents, and the community. I believe that a team effort is necessary to help everyone grow and learn to best meet the needs of students. As a parent, you play a vital role as a member of your child’s educational team. I look forward to partnering with you to ensure that your child has a successful year!
