Degrees and Certifications:

Stephanie Valainis

I am very excited to join Southbury’s staff this year as the K-2 Interventionist!  I am re-entering the teaching profession this year after spending the past few years home raising my own two daughters who are now in kindergarten and second grade.  During my years off full-time teaching, I continued to tutor individual students, volunteer, and substitute within District 308, as well as continue my own education to obtain a Math Endorsement.

In 2006, I graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and had the unique opportunity to complete a portion of my student teaching overseas in Australia in a multi-age second/third grade class.  I then taught in both third and fourth grade classrooms in Naperville and Plainfield for eight years.  In that time I earned a Master’s Degree in Teaching and Learning with a concentration in Differentiated Instruction from the University of St. Francis.  With that background, I joined District 308 as a Gifted Education Teacher from 2015-2017, and now I am eager for this opportunity to return to the district in a new role to support K-2 students in early literacy and numeracy skills.

I look forward to being a part of your child’s educational journey and working with him/her to grow as a learner this year!
