Principal's Message

  • August 4, 2016

    Greeting Long Beach Parents,

Welcome to August, which means our school doors will be opening to nearly 500 students in just a matter of a couple weeks! I hope you all had a restful summer break that included some family time, and are now ready to embark upon the journey of a lifetime – full of fresh ideas, new ways and approaches to reach all of our students, and a willingness to work as a collaborative team, all striving for what is best for each and every one of our students, because at Long Beach

    EVERY STUDENT MATTERS

A few tidbits for all of you......

 As we prepare for the first day of school, schedules are being finalized, class lists are looked at one last time, and staff are preparing their classrooms to make them the optimal learning environment for their students!

 I wanted to update all parents on some staff changes that have taken place since we left for summer on May 20th making up the grade level homeroom teachers:

The following staff members will be
5th Grade – Mrs. Brandwein, Mrs. Daleiden, Mrs. Ewalt, Mrs. Peterson
4th Grade – Mr. Cavello, Mrs. Gabris, Mrs. Loftus, Mrs. Tomter
3rd Grade – Mrs. Brummel, Mrs. Pergler, Mrs. Schmidt
2nd Grade – Mrs. Day, Mrs. Reuter (formerly Miss Keenan), Mrs. Ruddy, Mrs. Simmons
1st Grade – Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Mederich, Mrs. Rogers, Mrs. Wilson

 We have several new staff members in various roles, and some of them are still awaiting board approval, so I will send out to all of you these updates just as soon as everyone becomes official. Thanks for your patience.

 A few dates for you all to keep in mind –
    o Wednesday, August 10
After 4:00 pm, class assignments will be released through e-school. Parents may log into e-school to see which homeroom their students will be assigned to for the 2016-2017 school year. I also want all parents to know that many of our grade levels will be switching students
based upon pretest scores to better meet student needs. Therefore, your child may have one homeroom teacher, but may have another teacher for Math, and possibly another for ELA. As a school, we will be working hard to best meet the needs of every student, every day.

o Monday, August 15th - Preview Night. Preview Night will run from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with our Summer Reading Celebration to start at approximately 6:45 on the playground outside the gym. (weather permitting...cross your fingers).

o Wednesday, August 17th – you guessed it....1st Day of School!!!!! We are all so very excited for this day. As a friendly reminder, parents are not permitted to walk students to their classrooms. You are welcome to take your first day of school pictures outside, but once we welcome the students into the building, parents must remain outside. Thank you for your understanding.

o Thursday, September 1st– Curriculum Night. A more detailed flyer with schedules will be sent home as we get closer to this
    date.

    Some additional Long Beach news....
 This Saturday, August 6, 2016, Resurrection Church is partnering with Long Beach and will have many volunteers come to Long Beach from 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. for a day of beautification! We are very appreciative of the church for selecting Long Beach to receive this free day of beautification. I am inviting all parents to come out and help. Even if you can only help for 20 minutes, or a couple hours – all are welcome and I am sure the volunteers would be so very excited to see Long Beach parents coming by to help!

 Our parking lot is scheduled to be seal coated and striped today - Thursday, August 4th and Friday, August 5th. Please be advised that no cars will be allowed in either the front or back parking lots.

 Communication is on the increase! Please consider downloading the SD308 app from the app store on your smartphone. You will be able to have all the latest information at your fingertips. I will be utilizing this system very soon, and when I do, I will send out an accompanying voice message letting you know, as the initial e-mail may go directly into junk/spam folders. There are many exciting links within this app. When searching, be sure to include a space between SD and 308.

I look forward to putting together the final touches, as together we prepare to make 2016-2017 the greatest school year yet! I look forward to your partnerships, participation and willingness to do all you can for your students, because at Long Beach –
    Every Student Matters!
