  • Good Morning Mavericks! Today is Wednesday, October 5th, 2022 

    Attention all Mavericks:Food Drive Update! Currently, Miss Karvelius’ SST Homeroom class is in the lead with a class average of 40 items per student! Can you catch up? Remember, the SST competition is based upon the average number of items per student, not the total number. This makes the competition more fair. Please continue to bring in your donations of non-perishable goods or a monetary donation to your Student Support homeroom for a variety of incentives. After announcements, Student Council members should collect all donations, including money, and bring them to Miss Phillips in D128. This is a science lab directly across from the MPR. Keep up the great work, MAVS!

    Attention Students! Any student interested in joining the Murphy wrestling team may attend an informational meeting in Mrs. Zaininger's room, D221, tomorrow, Oct. 6th, after morning announcements. Please see a wrestling coach, Mr. Zaininger or Mr. Kiefert, with questions.

    Students, do you have a favorite book? Do you like to be creative? Do you like free stuff? The LRC invites you to participate in The LRC Great Pumpkin Contest. Decorate a pumpkin as your favorite book or character from a book!  Bring your finished pumpkin to the LRC October 14—27th. Winners announced during SST Friday, Oct. 28th. Winners will receive a gift certificate to the Scholastic Fall Book Fair 1st Place– 10$ certificate   2nd Place– 5$ certificate   3rd Place– Bookmark certificate. Decorations can be as creative as you get, but please do not carve the pumpkin. See the contest flyer, LRC Google Classroom or Mrs. Campasano, for details. So grab the perfect pumpkin and start your entry.

    Attention Students! Do you ever want a change of scenery from the cafeteria? Or have you ever wanted to have lunch with a Murphy staff member and decorate cookies, play games, or talk about fun topics - besides academics of course - topics like Harry Potter, sports, or Shakespeare? Maverick Meet & Eats is back this year! Make sure to listen to the announcements to know when a Meet & Eat is happening during your lunch period and if it is a topic that interests you. Sign up is limited to 15 students and can be done through your homeroom teacher.

    Students: Remember that this Friday, October 7th, is a School Improvement Day, which is a half day of school for students.  Dismissal is at 11:40am.  We will run a rotation schedule with your Homeroom teachers, which includes a career presentation, open gym, cafeteria with snacks for purchase, and activities with your homeroom class.  You will need an independent reading book as well as your headphones for one of the rotations.  Be sure to bring them on Friday.  If you need a pair of headphones, you can purchase them from the LRC for $1.

    Attention All Algebra Students: Today is a success maker day!  All Algebra students should be working on prodigy!

    Mavericks: Nurse Lauren is looking for her missing ice packs! If you may have one in your backpack, locker etc. please drop off in the nurse’s office or student services. No questions asked!!

    Hey Mav’s: Last night the boys soccer team took on Plank. After 60 minutes of physical play, the game ended in a tie. Tomorrow the boys travel to Traughber.

    Do you love Math? Do you love Competition?  Then the Murphy Math team is the place for you. The Competition Series is ideal for students who have a talent and passion for math and need to be challenged. Students will engage in exciting, "bee-style" contests in which they will compete against and alongside other bright, motivated students.  Tryouts will be held on Tuesday Oct. 11 in Ms. Borneman's room F123 from 3:15-4:30.  See your math teacher for more information and the try out form or grab one outside Ms. Borneman's room.

    What would you do if you were given $100,000? Would you spend it all at once? Would you think about putting some of it in the bank? Would you invest it in the stock market and watch it grow?  Join the Stock Market Club and you will get $100,000 to invest in the stock market game.  You and your team members will work to make the most money possible in 4 months.  The stock Market game club starts on Monday October 17.  Get a permission slip from your math teacher, in student services, or in the bulletin.  Don’t miss out on this opportunity to invest $100,000 in the stock market game.

    The Maverick Market is open today for the following Homerooms: Brooks, Burfield, Erickson, Karvelius, Waldron, Mr. Zaininger, Alcala, Meeder, Youngwith, Straub. If you have bullseyes to spend at the school store, you may walk to room E213,  after the pledge.

    Attention all Mavericks: Did you know it only takes $10 to feed someone in our community for a week?  On Monday, October 3rd, the annual district food drive will begin! Bring your donations of non-perishable goods or a monetary donation to your Student Support homeroom for a variety of incentives. A donation of $1 is good for 8 items donated. For the first item donated, you will receive a BULLSEYE. Donate your first 5 items and get a “FAST PASS” to jump the lunch line. Get your entire SST homeroom involved, and if your class has the most items per person, your class will earn a pizza party! All donations must be received by October 12th!  Jump in and help support our District 308 community. Let’s make this the BEST year yet, MAVS!

In this all-new student group, you'll read the award-winning graphic novel “New Kid” by Jerry Craft. Then you'll meet during a few lunch periods to talk about the book and learn how to become an ambassador for empathy at Murphy. See the LRC Google Classroom for more information.

    Mav’s: Last night the boys soccer team traveled to Bednarcik for a game. It was a long and tough first half. However, the team came out ready to play in the 2nd half. The final score was 7-1. Great game boys

    Reminder: Cell phones are not allowed during the school day. They should be turned off and out of sight. This includes during passing periods, lunches, study halls, PE, and all classes. This is a district-wide rule. If you need to make a call to a parent or guardian, you must come down to the front office and call from the school phone.

    Mavericks: The 8th Grade A volleyball team had its best serving game of the season, but still fell short to Thompson in 2 sets.  The 8th Grade B team competed hard and secured their first win of the season with the final set ending 26-24. Come cheer on the 8th grade girls at home vs. Bednarcik tonight!
