Grande Park Elementary School’s D.E.A.R. Day 2016!

What is it?

A day inspired by the writings of Beverly Cleary, who will be 100 years old this April 12th! Students all across Grande Park will Drop Everything And Read for at least 30 minutes, just like Ramona did in Ramona Quimby, Age 8.

Just like last year, students were encouraged to dress up as a favorite character from a favorite book. It didn’t have to be anything elaborate; this wasn’t Halloween! Round glasses and a homemade wand = Harry Potter! Bib overalls and a stuffed animal pig and you’re Fern from Charlotte’s Web. Wrap a scarf around your neck and carry some Christmas packages, and you’re Mr. Tumnus from The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. (You get the idea. And yes, all normal rules apply for dressing up. No weapons, nothing scary, etc.)

Students had a wonderful day reading right alongside their favorite book characters!
