SD 308 Swimmer Grace Cooper Has Qualified for the Olympic Trials

Press Release: SD 308 Swimmer Grace Cooper is the 50 m and 100m Freestyle 18 and under NATIONAL CHAMPION and has qualified for the Olympic Trials

Oswego East High School’s Grace Cooper, junior, recently competed at the USA Swimming National Championships in North Carolina where she qualified to swim in the 50m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, 200m Freestyle and 100m freestyle.  Grace is currently the IHSA State Champion in the 50yd Freestyle and the 100yd Freestyle events which were held earlier in November.


At the USA Swimming National Championships, Grace finished the prelims of the 100m Freestyle seeded 8th and finished the finals in 8th overall, she is the 18 and under National Champion, and qualified for the Olympic Trials in this event.  In the 50m Freestyle event, Grace finished 5th overall, is the 18 and under National Champion, and qualified for the Olympic Trials. Grace swam the 100m Butterfly and 200m Freestyle prelims, but did not qualify for finals in either of these two events.


Grace is coached by Deryl Leubner during the high school swimming season as well as with her club team - Delta Aquatics. Coach Leubner led the SD 308 Co-op Girls Swim and Dive Team to the IHSA State Finals in November, where they placed 8th. The team includes athletes from both Oswego and Oswego East High School.
