Grace Cooper, Oswego East Senior and Member of the Oswego Co-Op Girls' Swimming and Diving Team,
Has Qualified for the
Junior World Championships!

Grace Cooper

Last week Grace Cooper competed in the 2019 Phillips 66 US Swimming National Championships in Palo Alto, California.  This meet included many of the fastest swimmers in the United States and the world.  In addition to the many American Olympians in attendance, there were elite swimmers from Canada, France and Australia.

Grace finished in 21st place in the 100 meter freestyle and 8th place in the 50 meter freestyle.  In addition to this meet being our National Championship, it is also a qualifying meet for the Junior World Championships which will be held August 20th-25th in Budapest, Hungary.  In the sport of swimming, the World Championships is the second highest competition behind only the Olympics.  The Junior World Championships is the highest level of competition for swimmers under 18.  Placement on the Junior World Team is based on how high you place in the Olympic events.  There are only 26 spots on the Junior World Championship Team.  By being the 4th highest placing junior in the 100 freestyle, Grace was chosen to join the Junior World Championship Team.  She will fly out to Washington DC. to train with the Junior Team on the 14th and head out to Budapest on the 16th.
