2019 Character Counts T-shirt Design Contest Winners

Oswego, Ill. (September 26, 2019) — Every year, the U.S. President, Senate, state governors, and officials around the world proclaim the third week in October as Character Counts! Week.

There are Six Pillars of Character:  Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship. It is recommended that the Pillars are referred to in this order and use the acronym “T.R.R.F.C.C.” (terrific). These six values were identified in 1992 as “core ethical values that transcend cultural, religious and socioeconomic differences”.

Each of The Six Pillars of Character traits are followed and practiced at all of Oswego Community Unit School District 308 schools to help instill a positive school climate and a culture of kindness, making schools a safe environment for students to learn.  Someone once said that “character is who you are when no one is looking.''

Every year SD 308 students are invited to submit designs for theCharacter Counts t-shirts sold across the district and community.  We are excited to announce this year’s winners are: Tom Morgano, OHS graduate; Hailey Soriaga, Plank Junior High; and Poppy Benwell, Old Post Elementary.  Each of these students will be receiving a free shirt for their winning designs.

These shirts are still available through Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at:
